Bindura University of Science Education’s (BUSE) masawu products are drawing a lot of attention from the market as evidenced by their endorsement by captains of industries and business executives during the Mashonaland Central business expo that ran concurrently with the Mazowe Valley Show Society Agriculture Show from the 5th to the 10th of August 2024
The inaugural expo aimed to stimulate business investments in the province and provide potential investors with relevant information about the business opportunities available there.
The masawu range of products is a rural industrialisation, value addition and climate mitigation initiative that is expected to provide income and food security to the marginalised communities from the Zambezi River valley basin.
While contributing to the debate during the Indaba, Mr T. Nyamuwe from IPEC made a clarion call for BUSE to avail masawu products in the supermarkets as they had proven to be a potential nutritious range of products.
“I tasted the masawu drink about 2 years ago and I really liked the product. I have been looking for it in retail shops but cannot find it. To my surprise, since then it is still only found at BUSE. What is stopping such an initiative product from being launched on the market across the country,” he queried.
The masawu range of products includes the Masawu Juice which is a nutritious non-alcoholic beverage rich in Vitamin C, an immune booster and comes in a variety of flavours while the Masawu Energy Bar which is made from masawu, roasted nuts and sesame is a healthy snack bonded with honey and plays a therapeutic role in the treatment of diseases owing to its bioactive chemicals, and anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
