Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following vacancies that have arisen at Bindura University of Science Education.

  1. FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

1.1     CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT

1.1.1  Organic Chemistry: Lectureship/Senior Lectureship/Associate    Professorship /Professorship (1Post) 

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must be holders of a PhD in Organic Chemistry and must have working experience at a Tertiary Institution as a Lecturer or Teaching Assistant. The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications, dates published, name(s) of journal and name(s) of co-authors if any. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant shall be expected to teach organic Chemistry e.g. natural products, photochemistry, and medical chemistry etc. courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.  Suitable candidates must exhibit a strong potential to attract external funding for their research and mentoring post and undergraduate students.  The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong extramurally supported research program that strengthens existing natural products research and biotechnology research activities.  He /She will be expected to (i) develop a strong, independent, extramurally –funded research program, (ii) develop collaborative relationships in research and contribute to outreach/extension and service functions of the department and University.

The successful candidate must be willing to establish inter-departmental and inter- institutional programs that support natural products or medicinal chemistry.  The candidate will be heavily involved in product development for the innovation hub with focus on natural products and medicinal chemistry.  In addition the successful candidate will be required to develop and introduce new Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses and to supervise Undergraduate and Postgraduate research projects. The eligible candidate must also be able to develop and supervise laboratory practicals, link the department with international and regional research funding institutions and actively participate in University Extension Services.

  • Laboratory Technician (1 Post)

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of 5 ‘O’ levels including English       Language, Mathematics and Science, National Diploma/Higher National      Diploma and 3 years post qualification experience.  A relevant degree is a     must.  Applicants must also have experience in the use and operation of the following instruments: HPLC, GLC, UV-Vis, AAS and FT-IR.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be in charge of Faculty equipment installations and other technical services, assisting in Faculty presentations/workshops/seminars, maintaining inventories of the distribution and movement of equipment in the department, advising on selection of procurement of teaching and learning equipment, ensuring that equipment is maintained and kept in sound working conditions at all times, receiving, recording and documenting instructions on all technical service required for teaching, publication and research by the members, training and supervising junior technical staff and any other duties as assigned by the Chairman.

  1. FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

 2.1     ENVIROMENTAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT 

2.1.1  Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor / Full Professor (2 Posts) 

 Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a first Degree in Safety, Health and Environmental      Management with at least 2.1 class and a Master’s Degree in Safety, Health    and Environmental Management with at least a merit.  A PhD in relevant field would be an added advantage. Applicants must have a minimum of two years teaching experience at a Tertiary learning institution or traceable industrial experience working in an Occupational Health and Safety Training    Environment.  Applicants must provide a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications,          journal names, volumes, page numbers, dates of publications, name(s) of publishers and of co–authors if any, in their curriculum vitae.    

Duties and Responsibilities

Applicants must be able to teach at least four (4) courses at undergraduate    and postgraduate levels from the following: Environmental Management Systems; Ergonomics; Occupational Hygiene and Toxicology; Safety, Health   and Environmental Auditing; Occupational Health and Safety Legislation;   Safety Health and Risk Management and Occupational Health and Safety Education.  The department reserves the right to allocate courses for    teaching.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Department’s activities involving teaching, research, community engagement as well as innovation and industrialisation.

2.2     ANIMAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

2.2.1  Teaching Assistant (1 Post)         

The post is renewable for up to three (3) years and the Teaching          Assistants are required to register for a Master’s degree. 

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) or related qualification in Animal Health with at least an Upper Second Class (2.1) or     better.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to assist with marking and conducting tutorials and practicals for undergraduate courses and to participate in Innovation, Industrialisation and Community Outreach activities.

2.3     CROP SCIENCE DEPARTMENT 

2.3.1  Teaching Assistant (1 Post) 

Qualifications and Experience.

The position requires a holder of a BSc Honours Degree in Crop Science or related field with a 2.1 grade or better.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates is expected to assist with marking and          conducting tutorials for undergraduate courses and to participate in   Innovation, Industrialisation, and Community Outreach activities.

2.4     FARM TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (1 POST) 

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of 5 ‘O’ level subjects including English Language,  Mathematics and Science.  Applicants must have a Diploma in Agriculture and 2 years working experience in a University environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the Technician but will also be part of broad technical team, ensuring effective day to day operations of the Department. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

The Farm Technical Assistant will assist the Technician in the following:-

  • Preparing, arranging and conducting of field practicals for students.
  • Assisting lecturers and students in carrying out research projects and trials.
  • Participating in departmental income generating projects in the Teaching, Research and Learning Unit at the Farm.
  • Organising and accompanying both diploma and undergraduate students on educational tours.
  • Procurement of tools and equipment for the department.
  • Maintaining an up-to date inventory of the departmental equipment and agro-chemicals.
  • Preparation of departmental project budgets.
  • Servicing and maintaining departmental tools and equipment.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Head of Department.

2.5     TECHNICIAN (1 Post)

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have 5 “O” Level subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Science.  The incumbent must also have a National Diploma in ICT or related area, plus at least two (2) years post qualification experience with traceable references. A Higher National diploma will be an added advantage.    

Duties and Responsibilities

          The successful candidate will be expected to:-

  • Ensure the functionality and safety of the LCD projectors and other ICT equipment;
  • Control the materials kept in stock;
  • Ensure machines and materials are ready for use;
  • Maintain and repair machines and equipment;
  • Support the Faculty e-learning and online communication  systems;
  • Support academics carrying out research projects;
  • Assist students with research projects including  use of Antiplagiarism Software
  • Demonstrate methods and experiments to students;
  • Facilitate students’ field trips in liaison with Departmental Chairpersons;
  • Manage the ICT Asset Register
  • Provide General Cleanliness of ICT laboratories
  • Mann the Faculty generator and
  • Supervise ICT Technical Assistants within the Faculty
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 3 FACULTY OF COMMERCE 

3.1     GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS 

3.1.1  Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Full Professor/Lecturer

     Master of Business Leadership (1 Post)

  Candidates must be able to teach the following courses:-

Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Financial and   Management Accounting, Corporate Governance, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Managerial Economics, Strategic Leadership and   Organizational Dynamics, Business Research Methods and Legal Environment of Business. 

3.2     Executive Master of Business Leadership (2 Posts)

          The incumbent must be able to teach the following courses:-

Operations Management/Management Science, Business Statistics, Financial Management for Business Leaders, Management Information Systems & E-commerce, accounting & taxation and project management.

3.3     Master of Leadership and Corporate Governance (2 Posts)

          Areas of teaching required:

Corporate governance; leadership motivation, coaching and mentoring;        board process and risk management, strategic leadership and organizational dynamics, strategic transformational leadership, leadership and succession planning, conflict management, strategic change management.

 3.4     Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (2 Posts)

          Areas of teaching required:

Innovation management, entrepreneurial financing, corporate    entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship & new business development, venture  creation, digital marketing, and data analytics

Most lectures are done in Harare.

Qualifications and Experience

          Applicants must possess:

  •  A Doctorate in Management Sciences (Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Leadership, Corporate Governance. Marketing, Finance, Statistics, Human resources, Management Information Systems);
  •  3-5 years lecturing experience; 
  •  A record of research publication in high quality peer reviewed journals;
  • A record of successful supervision of students at both Master’s and Doctoral levels; and
  • Management or Consultancy experience.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to plan and execute independent specialist area and multi-disciplinary research programmes;
  • Appropriate interpersonal, language and communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a team setting and individually without supervision; and
  • Commitment to further academic development. 

3.5     HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor/Professor (3 Posts)

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should hold a PhD degree or registered PhD (attach proof of registration) in the field of Human Resources Management or equivalent. A Master’s degree and Foundation first degree in the area of specialization are a must.

Applicants must have a minimum of two years University teaching experience.  Proven record of publications and ability to mobilize funds will be added advantages.  The curriculum vitae (CV) should contain a detailed list of publications; clearly specifying titles of publications, journal names, volumes, page numbers details, dates published, name(s) of publishers and name(s) of co-authors if any. Publications should be categorized into: books, monographs, refereed and non-refereed journals, chapters in the books, etc.

Responsibilities

Applicants must be able to teach at least six (6) courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level to both conventional and block students listed below:

Introduction to Psychology, Industrial Sociology, Principles of Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, Occupational Health and Safety, Public Sector HRM, Reward Management, Human Resource Policy and Practice, Talent Management, Training and Development, Strategic Management, Strategic Human Resource Management, Leadership and Ethics, HR Analytics, Human Resource Development, Organizational Behaviour, Human Capital Consultancy.

The department reserves the right to allocate courses for teaching.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide academic leadership to the Department, initiate, guide and contribute basic and applied research in the Department.  Successful applicants must be able to supervise both undergraduate and postgraduate students in their fields of specialization and conduct collaborative research and be involved in the University service and community engagement.

3.6     POLICE AND SECURITY STUDIES DEPARTMENT

          Teaching Assistant (1 Post)

         Qualifications and Experience

Applicant must have a first Degree in Police and Security Studies or Financial Intelligence with a 2.1 grade or better. Post-graduation work experience in    Crime Investigations, Risk Management and Loss Control will be an added advantage.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate should be able to conduct tutorials and mark assignments and examinations in the BBA Police and Security Studies and the BCOM Financial Intelligence programmes.

  1. INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

4.1     SOFTWARE DEVELOPER (1 Post)

          The University is looking for experienced Software Developer. 

          Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have at least a BSc Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology or related degree.  A minimum of at least two (2) years postgraduate experience in software development. A good working knowledge of LAMP/WAMP, relational databases MySqi in particular, proof of experience with Laravel, C-Sharp and JavaScript is also required.  The candidate must have experience with APIs and Protocols.  Persons with multiple skills such as Database Administration, Server Administration in Linux and Web Design will be an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities

The developers should be able to:-

Research, develop, design, implement, test and manage software and applications for computers; maintain and upgrade old programs; identifying areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing them; test and evaluate new programs; produce system and program documentation, train users and troubleshoot all computer applications; monitor and evaluate system performance and writing and implementing efficient code.

5 LIBRARY DEPARTMENT

     5.1 ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN (ONE POST) 

The Assistant Librarian undertakes and manages all reference, acquisitions, cataloguing and information literacy programs and services for a specific faculty as assigned by the Librarian.

Qualifications and Experience 

The incumbent should have a minimum qualification of a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science.  Possession of at least two (2) years continuous work experience in an academic or research library is a necessity.  Experience working with Faculty is a prerequisite.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages the library’s collection and reference services for assigned Faculty or Programmes;
  • Develops digital collections for the various subjects offered in the assigned Faculty;
  • Prepares informational materials like newsletters, bibliographies brochures and other promotional materials to market library resources and services;
  • Organizes and conducts user education activities in the form of general orientation seminars to the library and its resources as well as subject specific seminars in the various disciplines offered by the University;
  • Participates in the development of information literacy skills training programmes;
  • Develops content for the library website and social media platforms;
  • Supervises the work of Chief/Senior Library Assistant and performs evaluation; and,
  • Preforms other library related duties that may be assigned by the Sub- Librarian, Deputy Librarian or Librarian.
