To achieve this, the faculty will be guided by the following values; learning, diversity, leadership, integrity, excellence, student-centredness, discipline, and commitment.
Welcome to the Faculty of Commerce! I’m the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and my name is Professor Blessing Maumbe.
The Faculty of Commerce started in 2004 and is one of the largest faculties at BUSE with an enrolment of almost 2000 students spread across 6 departments with a faculty establishment of 60 Lecturers and 12 support staff members. The Faculty contributes significantly to the nation through human resource development in business and financial management, marketing, and public policy. It has also grown rapidly by adding new academic programmes that include new graduate programmes, executive development programmes, and short courses. Degree programmes offered in the faculty prepare students to meet socio-economic challenges facing transforming economies like ours and respond to global economic imperatives.
The Faculty of Commerce trains graduates who are competent in diverse fields of commerce such as: accountancy, banking and finance, economics, marketing, human capital management and financial intelligence and police and security studies. In addition, the faculty runs a Graduate Business School that offers a Master of Business Leadership (MBL) degree, Masters in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Executive Development programmes and short courses. Faculty of Commerce graduates are well-positioned to function in the 21st century knowledge society and are ready to pursue opportunities in industry, non-governmental organizations and the government sector. The faculty now offers Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in agribusiness, economics, marketing, and supply chain management. The Faculty of Commerce is moving beyond training graduates who seek employment, to producing creative and innovative entrepreneurs who can create employment and turn our economy around.
The Faculty of Commerce has partnered with esteemed institutions in Zimbabwe and the SADC region to advance its academic mission. We have long standing strategic partnerships with the IPMZ, Zimbabwe Republic Police Staff College, the Robert Gabriel Mugabe School of Intelligence (RGMSI), the Africa Leadership Management Academy (ALMA), and the Oxford Business Institute (OBI) in Swaziland. The Faculty of Commerce values its relationships with all its Affiliate Colleges and continues to explore partnerships with reputable institutions globally. Our Accounting degree programme is accredited with ACA and ZIA. As a result our students receive 9 exemptions, the highest in Accounting in the country.
The Faculty aims to promote excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, ensuring that the University is not an ivory tower. We believe that working closely with local communities and other strategic partners adds value to our academic programmes and research, thus enhancing the relevance of our degree programmes to industry and society. The Faculty of Commerce is in the process of building its research capacity and our faculty members are actively pursuing research on small and medium scale enterprises, corporate governance, and e-commerce. In addition, the faculty is conducting various short courses, seminars and public lectures with leading academics and industry experts.
