Bindura University of Science Education’s (BUSE) Vice Chancellor, Professor Eddie Mwenje, recently paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s (KNUST) Vice Chancellor, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, to explore possible collaboration in audiology.
Accompanied by Mr Daniel Chihombori. Prof Mwenje toured KNUST’s renowned department of Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat (EENT) to learn more about their Audiology Unit.
BUSE recently opened its School of Optometry and Audiology, a first in Zimbabwe. Audiology programmes are set to be launched soon and will see the students receiving specialised training in ear health.

As BUSE is celebrating its 25th anniversary, Prof Mwenje expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the importance of collaborative partnership in developing transformational programmes.
Pointing to the success of the optometry programme, Prof Mwenje highlighted the important role the University of Cape Coast played in setting up, not only the optometry programme but also the Optometry Clinic.
Professor Mwenje expressed admiration for the EENT Department and proposed a formal partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster collaboration in research, academic exchanges, and capacity-building, particularly in Audiology.

Professor Rita Akosua Dickson welcomed the delegation and shared insights into KNUST, emphasising its commitment to training globally competitive professionals. She expressed enthusiasm for the proposed collaboration, reiterating KNUST’s dedication to excellence in research and innovation.
Prof Dickson assured BUSE of KNUST’s readiness to engage in a mutually beneficial partnership aimed at addressing societal challenges and improving quality of life.
