In the true spirit of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) dominated the 2025 Zimbabwe University Staff Sports Association (ZUSSA) by scooping 10 medals and winning the overall best institution.

BUSE Vice-Chancellor Professor Eddie Mwenje has given the nod for the institution to host the games as part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations, and the staffers did not disappoint.
BUSE stood head and shoulders above Midlands State University (MSU), Great Zimbabwe University (GZU), Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), Harare Institute of Technology (HIT), and Marondera University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (MUAST).

Winning gold in men’s darts, men’s pool, ladies’ tennis, both men’s and ladies’ table tennis, men’s volleyball, and both the women’s and men’s tug of war, BUSE stamped an early marker for the Chancellor’s games which will be held in July in Chinhoyi.
The University wrapped its medal haul with silver medals in soccer, chess, men’s tennis, and women’s silver.

The highlight of the games was the tug-of-war event. After winning resoundingly against HIT ladies, the HIT men challenged the BUSE women to avenge their ladies’ defeat. The BUSE ladies proved that brains bits brawn all the time. By employing superior tactics and coordinating their efforts, the BUSE ladies easily pulled HIT’s muscled men.

The ZUSSA games bring together private and state universities in Zimbabwe to compete and build solidarity among institutions. BUSE first hosted the games almost two decades ago and now they have come full circle at a time when BUSE is celebrating its Silver Jubilee.
