The Bindura University of Science Education Enactus team narrowly lost out to finish as runners-up at the 2023 National Enactus Championships which was held at Monomutapa Hotel in Harare recently.
The team missed out on the National Enactus title but still has a chance to qualify for the Enactus World Cup which will be held in the Netherlands in October.
Despite the near miss, the team walked away with various accolades which proved that indeed BUSE’s Organic Buscket project had impressed the judges.
Hillary ‘Haym’ Mandava was awarded the Most Outstanding Male President while BUSE Alumnus Dr Lovemore Danda received the Most Outstanding Alumni of the Year Under 40 award.
Haym’s remarkable leadership of the team also earned him the Social Media Influencer of the Year award.
The Enactus team stormed into the National Championship finals from the ‘christened’ Group of Death which featured the University of Zimbabwe (UZ), National University of Technology (NUST), Midlands State University (MSU), and Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS).
BUSE claimed the top spot, after the virtual league screening, and MSUAS emerged runners-up. They were joined by Lupane State University (LSU) and Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).
In the finals, the team pitched its Organic Bucket project and it impressed a number of corporate partners that graced the competition. A number of organisations showed interest in the project and pledged to partner with the team in commercializing their concept.
LSU was the eventual winner and, together with BUSE, will have their project audited by KPMG.
The KPMG audit team will visit the University on the 7th of August. The team who will represent Zimbabwe will only be announced after the final audit has been concluded.
