The hard work and perseverance of the Bindura University of Science Education sports personalities continue to bear fruit as two students represented Zimbabwe in regional competitions recently.
Golfers Tracy Humbira and Tarina Gudyanga represented Zimbabwe in the G&P trination and the A&B triangular tournament, respectively. The ladies steered team Zimbabwe to victory in both events and Tarina scoped the second-best junior golfer in the Debswana Ladies Open.
Tracy took part in the bi-annual G&P tri-nation from the 8th to the 13th of August which comprised Zimbabwe, Zambia and Kenya. It took place at Chapman Golf Course and the Royal Golf Club in Harare. Zimbabwe won it to extend their winning streak to 6 consecutive triumphs.
Tracy said this experience helped her as she was playing with better-ranked golfers from other countries.
“As a five-handicap amateur golfer, this tournament helped me to improve and develop my game further. I was playing against better-ranked golfers but I won all games and helped team Zimbabwe retain the title,” said Tracy.
“I am grateful to the University for availing me the opportunity to develop my skills by providing facilities at the Bindura Country Club. I have coaches who are nurturing my talent and I hope to turn Pro in the next 2 years.
Tarina was in Gaborone Botswana for the A&B Triangular Tournament which pitted Zimbabwe against Botswana and Zambia from the 29th to the 31st of August. Again, Team Zimbabwe won first place.
She then took part in the Debswana Ladies Open where she finished as the second-best junior division golfer.
“I am happy with my performance. It is encouraging to go to regional events and win something,” she said.
Tarina and Tracy are both second-year students at the University and are part of the National Sports Academy.
Director of the National Sports Academy, Commissioner Titus Zvomunya was ecstatic:
“We are proud of the ladies. They are doing amazingly and we will continue to support them and develop their talent until they turn professional,” said Commissioner Zvomunya.
