Professor Jabulani Ray Gumbo is a distinguished academic and researcher with extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. His career began in Zimbabwe, where he worked at Varichem Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, successfully developing and manufacturing generic TB combination drugs. His ground-breaking research in bioavailability studies for TB medications was published in the Central African Journal of Medicine.

Professor Gumbo holds a BSc (Honours) in Chemistry and an MSc in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Zimbabwe. He furthered his education at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, earning an MSc and PhD in Water Resources Management in 2004 and 2007, respectively. In addition, he obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Higher Education from Rhodes University in 2016.

As a member of several prestigious organizations, including the International Society for the Study of Harmful Algae and the International Mine Water Association, Professor Gumbo has made significant contributions to the fields of water quality management and environmental science. He has held various academic positions, including Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Full Professor at the University of Venda, where he was recognized as the Top Intellectual Property Creator in 2019 and received the Vice Chancellor Excellence Award in Community Engagement in 2023.
