Dr Tendai Njila – Acting Executive Dean
Message from the Acting Executive Dean
It is my honour and privilege to welcome you to the Faculty of Engineering. I am delighted to lead this newly established Faculty, which officially came into being in 2025 following its separation from the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The establishment of the Faculty of Engineering reflects our University’s commitment to advancing Zimbabwe’s national vision of innovation, industrialization and modernization. Our Faculty is strategically positioned to produce highly skilled engineers who will contribute to sustainable development and technological advancement at both local and global scales.
The Faculty currently comprises three (3) Departments:-
- Agricultural Engineering
Applying engineering principles to enhance agricultural productivity and food security.
- Electronic Engineering
Driving innovation in electronics, automation, and communication technologies.
- Mining Engineering
Supporting the sustainable exploitation of mineral resources, a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s economy.
- Grain Milling and Processing Engineering
Adding value to our agricultural produce.
As a Faculty, we envision becoming a leading centre of Engineering Excellence locally and abroad, producing innovative engineers, advancing research, and driving sustainable industrial and community development. We are committed to producing graduates who are not only technically proficient but also ethical leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs capable of shaping the future of Zimbabwe and beyond. The growth of the faculty is also premised on the introduction of more departments and programmes aligned to the emerging fields of engineering that are driven to provide innovative industry solutions.
I thank you
Vision
To become a leading Faculty of Engineering locally and abroad, producing innovative engineers, advancing research, and driving sustainable industrial and community development.
Mission
The Faculty of Engineering is dedicated to advancing industry-relevant education, impactful research, and community engagement through excellence in teaching, innovation, and mutually beneficial partnerships. We aim to equip graduates with integrity, technical skills, and entrepreneurial capacity to solve real-world challenges, support industrial growth, and contribute meaningfully to local, national and global development.
Core Values
Just as every itinerant device is uniquely identified by its IMEI, our Faculty, in addition to the University’s Core Values, is distinctly defined by its own IMEI:-
Integrity and Skill
Professionalism, ethical conduct, and excellence in engineering practice.
Modernization
Creative, research-driven solutions to address societal and industrial challenges.
Excellence
Engineering knowledge that transforms ideas into products, services, and industries for economic growth.
Ingenuity
Harnessing imagination and technical skills to develop transformative solutions.
These values form the unique identity that guides our dynamic teaching, research, and engagement with society.
As the inaugural Acting Executive Dean, I pledge to work closely with our students, staff, industry partners, and stakeholders to ensure that the Faculty of Engineering remains a beacon of knowledge and innovation. Together, we shall nurture a generation of engineers who are visionary, solution-driven, and committed to shaping a prosperous and industrialized Zimbabwe. I warmly invite you to be part of this exciting journey of discovery, innovation, and transformation.
