Graduate Trainees – Optometrist (3 Posts)

Qualifications and Experience

 Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Optometry passed with at least an upper second (2.1) class attained in the past year;
  • It is expected that the candidates would have basic educational qualifications at ‘A’ and ‘O’ Levels which include English Language, Mathematics and Science;
  • The candidate should have valid registration papers issued by the Pharmacist Council of Zimbabwe Optometry Internship;
  • The applicants must be 25 years of age and below.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The candidate should be able to:

  • Offer a comprehensive eye examination as prescribed and to the expectations of the Zimbabwe Optometric Association and the World Council of Optometry;
  • Apply this examination to come up with a conclusive diagnosis and an appropriate management plan;
  • Correctly use available optometric equipment to come up with a suitable diagnosis;
  • Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors under supervision;
  • Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologist or other health care practitioners for additional medical treatment as appropriate under supervision;
  • Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision under supervision;
  • Provide vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation under supervision;
  • Organize outreach services and perform other official duties that may be assigned under supervision.
