Bindura University of Science Education Optometry Clinic opened to the public on the 1st September 2021 after receiving its licence.
The clinic which also serves as an Optometry School, was commissioned by President Emmerson D Mnangagwa on November 6, 2020.
A number of senior citizens were present to have their eyes checked. Seven men and women aged 60 years and above received reading glasses which will help them to read the Bible on this day.
The Vice Chancellor was upbeat about the development and said it contributed to the attainment of Vision 2030 in which the nation would be predominantly middle class and the standard of living will be greatly improved. He encouraged the Optometry students to work hard since Optometrists were in high demand in the country.
The Chairman of the Optometry department Dr C Mtuwa, staff and students all took turns to welcome the patients and examine their eyes. The patients were overjoyed as was evident on their faces as they left the clinic to return home. They praised the University for introducing programmes that are beneficial to the community.
