Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE) SRC executive has pledged to focus on building collaborations with all stakeholders and do away with rowdiness and hooliganism as it has no place in this new educational era.
This came out during an SRC induction workshop organized for the incoming student body at the Town campus recently. In recent years, student representative bodies in most institutions of higher learning have been misguided needlessly and got caught up in emotional acrimonious divergences with authorities rather than provide altruistic and practical leadership for the benefit of the students.
The SRC President Mr. Kudakwashe Matare said his executive’s mandate was to engage in activities, discussions and initiatives embedded in the Education 5.0 philosophy as the country races towards the envisaged middle income economy by 2030.
“I would like to unequivocally put it on record that rowdiness and hooliganism has no place in this new dawn. Our student government will be vehemently centered on rational debate and rational dialogue towards a revised vision and a new focus on building collaboration among all members and organisations within our prestigious institution of higher learning,” said Mr Matare.
“It is in this spirit and with the ambition engraved deeply in my heart that indeed my goal in our student government is nothing less than to create a living example of student leaders who embody and personify the calling of a servant leader”.
He said it was his heartfelt desire that the student body reach a consensus with the administration in their future engagements with a view of working together for the development of the institution.Speaking at the same occasion, BUSE Off-Campus Coordinator Mr. Denis Zanza said good qualities of a leader included being authentic, trustworthy and unwavering especially on issues of popular opinion.
He added that leaders need to listen to everyone and have good emotional intelligence and tolerance.
