Leon Tafirenyika, a BUSE National Sports Academy talentee and second year student continues to raise both the national and university flags high through his sporting talent. He is representing Zimbabwe in the 2019 Edition of the World University Games currently running in Naples, Italy. The games commenced on the 8th of July and will be running for three weeks.
The World University Games are international university sports and cultural events that are staged every two years in different countries. The games draw thousands of student-athletes together to compete, making it one of the largest multi-sport events in the world.
In his first competition, Tafirenyika occupied seventh (7th) place in the 400m race which he covered in 47.07s.
On the 10th of July, Tafirenyika sprinted to a remarkable third place in the 200m Heat with a respectable time of 21.42s. This earned him a spot in the Semi-finals which were run yesterday 11th July at 1810 hours. The results will be announced in due course. The University community wishes him all the best as he prepares for his next race.
