Vision
The department seeks to be a thriving centre of communication and the major driving force behind all linkages with stakeholders such as the government, students, potential students, alumni, high schools, employees, legislators, local and business communities.
Mission Statement
The department exists to initiate, transmit, receive, process and respond to all communications between the university and its publics. We believe that a successful institution enjoys the goodwill of people living in both its internal and external environments and that care has to be taken to cultivate healthy relationships.
Aims and Objectives
The department set itself the following aims and objectives:
- Position the university as a leader and authority in providing affordable conventional degree programmes.
- Increase visibility for the university’s entire range of programmes and services.
- Expand awareness of the university’s entire range of programmes and services through publication, media coverage and use of promotional materials.
- Enhance the university’s image
- Aid in recruitment and retention of employees and staff
- Support efforts to raise funds for new programmes, projects and services
- Boost student and employee morale from time to time
- Champion the formulation, implementation, monitoring and review of the strategic plan
- Assisting students with finding places for work related learning (or industrial attachment)

Staff Complement
The department has a staff complement of seven posts with one post of the International Relations Officer being vacant. The department is headed by the Director, Marketing and Communication. |
| Mr JJ Gutura |
The Marketing and Communication Director is responsible for providing marketing and communication guidance and services to university officers, Deans, Chairpersons, students and other agents of the university. In terms of functioning, the position entails a lot of work including giving advices in a number of issues including new student recruitment, current student satisfaction, university communication requirements and fundraising.As the face of the organization, it is the responsibility of the department to develop and maintain a distinct, high profile image of the university.
This may be done through conducting studies of the needs, perceptions, preferences and |

satisfactions of particular markets,developcommunication and promotion campaign materials and being in constant liaison with the media for press releases, media response and media placement. All this is done with the hope to ensure that the university is portrayed in a positive way. Of importance to note is that the Director serves as the official spokesperson of the university in case of crisis that attracts media attention or in case of general enquiries about the university.
Other duties of the Director of Marketing include serving on university committees as advised by the Vice Chancellor, coordinating production of speeches for officials as well as producing and distributing university major publications like the prospectus, calendar, annual report, etc. For more information directed to the Director, please email him on jjgutura@buse.ac.zw.

 Ms J Masheleni |
The MPRO is a communications specialist who must have easy access to information. Ms Masheleni who is the Public Relations Officer is responsible for the formulation and implementation of public relations programmes.
Such programmes incorporate issues to do with maintenance of communication within the university through dissemination of information regarding official pronouncement such general appointments,
faculty appointments
and faculty promotions. Ms Masheleni’s office is also responsible for the organization of all university |
major functions. In an endeavor to develop and monitor a distinct high profile image of the university, the MPRO engages herself in monitoring and analyzing the university’s image on a continuing basis and modifies the public relations programmes according to current requirements. She serves on a number of committee’s including Open Day, Strategic Plan Review meetings, Invitations and Protocol and others. Other duties also include preparation of the university annual report, preparation of speeches for Senior University members, monitoring of the university website and constant updating of information on the website. Industrial Liason Officer |

Mr A.R Gwata |
Mr Gwata who is the Industrial Liaison Officer is responsible for establishing and strengthening relationships with the world of work. He assists students secure industrial attachment positions. To carry out such duties, Mr Gwata embarks on a number of duties including:
- Writing letters of introduction and support for students seeking places for industrial attachment

- Keeping registers of companies likely to take student learners
- Keeping a register of students who go on attachment for purposes of conducting follow ups and supervision.
- Visiting organizations engaging student learners as necessary in order to encourage continued cooperation
- Make logistical arrangements for staff going on supervisory visits to students in the field.
- Attend faculty meetings relevant to the subject of industrial attachment
- Attend general trade and career fairs and carry out prospects management for final year students.
